The solar energy panels are quite expensive initially, making this a major consideration for many, who may be skeptical of the savings over time. But, there is good news, solar panels are probably not as expensive as you might think, in fact you can even make your own solar panels at home with a little help from the internet and some basic household tools. It may surprise you to find that many of the products you already have in your home can be used to create a simple solar panel design, for instance, you probably own a saw, drill, screwdriver and a wooden container of some sort. Don’t overlook the likelihood of needing wood glue or other adhesives such as silicone caulk available to aide in box assembly and solar panel attachment.
Installing solar panels will not only benefit you in terms of savings, but it will also help the environment. Most of the processes that occur when producing electricity have quite a large negative impact on the environment due to waste and pollution. But when it comes to solar power there are no by-products or pollutants that will harm the environment. Plus, since it uses sunlight to make electricity, it is a renewable energy source, in other words it isn’t a resource that can be depleted, like oil. The good effects it has on the environment aren’t always noticeable immediately, but the more people who use energy sources that are clean the healthier the environment will be. The effects that will take place in the long-term will be wonderful, and the future generations will be able to feel them. But at the rate of destruction we’re currently going at, our children and grandchildren wouldn’t be able to experience the environment like how we do today.
Batteries will need to be connected and you may want to solder a diode first. Using batteries will allow the solar cells to power the batteries and not the other way around. Sometime during the night you could be wasting power. On the other hand, if you are using a charge controller then this step is not necessary. Your entire house, if you have enough solar panels, can actually be powered if positioned and used in the proper way. Likewise, solar panels can also be connected to the heating system and you can then heat your home with the help of solar power.
